M&S children’s picnic set – YCN competition

Hello! Here’s my penultimate competition entry for this spring. It’s for YCN. The brief was to design a picnic set for M&S for a special occasion, and to choose a target audience for your product. I chose to design a children’s picnic and wanted to incorporate the concept of ‘grow -your-own’ into it.

The picnic is called Eat & Sow and contains all the things you might possibly need for a yummy picnic, followed by a spell in the garden, sowing some seeds. The main container is made from a plastic garden cloche which has a cardboard base. The receptacles for the food are little brown recycled seed pots. The idea being, that once you’ve finished eating you can start growing. I’ve included 3 packets of seeds and a growing wheel to get the little people started. The water bottle has a perforated lid, therefore doubling up as a watering can.

M&S pride themselves on creating packaging with as little waste as possible, and I think this set will have no waste at all. The little flags act as seed markers, the cardboard is all bio degradable and can be used for compost to help those little seedlings grow. The picnic includes a roll, a chocolate & beetroot muffin, carrot sticks, grapes and some veg crisps. Nice and healthy.
